I-10 Connect El Paso is a $96 million project by the Texas Department of Transportation that is impacting the central El Paso area along with the Bridge of the Americas. The Bridge of the Americas alone services 20,000 travelers a day; most of those travelers are daily commuters.
After attending the initial community meeting provided by TxDOT, my team and I noticed a lack of real-time communication between TxDOT and the group of daily commuters. Even with drafted plans and timelines, emergency closures or weather delays were still impacting an already hectic commute given the current construction.
A bilingual text messaging system was developed in order to alert the public of changing plans. The public relations team
for I-10 Connect utilizes this system in order
to send text messages or even schedule text messages to be sent out to subscribers about the construction.
